Monica Byrne was in graduate school studying geochemistry when she decided she should "allow herself to just do what gives her the most pleasure in the world:" writing. Since then, Monica has written plays, an award-winning novel, The Girl in the Road, and short stories for Patreon, as well as her blog and on Twitter. She also write and performs with her theater company, Little Green Pig, and on the TED stage. Check out her interview today, and check back tomorrow for more on her performance at this year's TED conference!
Monica Byrne wanted to be the first person to set foot on another planet. Then, she realized that she'd rather stay here on Earth, imagining a different world as a science fiction writer. She tells us why she believes that science fiction is an activist platform, and how her low tolerance for unhappiness makes her more inventive in making a living as a writer.
